PRANA
Held in every breath, Prāna is the primordial energy of the universe; it is both macrocosmic and microcosmic and the substratum of all life. In a visual exploration of the unseen, Urvashi Kaur’s new collection transcends beyond the tangible. Reimagining ancestral heirlooms as new silhouettes, the collection revives these one-of-a-kind textiles by breathing new prana into its weaves. It is intuitive in placement, organic in movement and
elemental in colors.
Breathed into materiality, the collection aligns the observed consciousness of the Vedas with the intuitive legacies of our indigenous restorative practices. Signature house sheers are imagined in handwoven chanderi organzas, fluid linearity expressed in leheriyas and rippled shiboris are centered in dimensional kantha stitch line artistry and patchwork embroidery. Our silhouettes are unconstrained by gender, age and conventional constructs, freeing the wearer’s movements. The body serves as host and conduit. By delving into the connection between the celestial bodies and the chakras within our own, there is abundance in the unseen. Exquisite mulberry silks, zari tussars, brocades and textural knitwork imbue a festive luster in the collection’s fluid staples, co-ords, dresses and melange of protean separates.
Refracted in a spectrum of energy across the seven chakras, Prāna’s vibrations are visualized along the wavelength. Silken umbers, indigos, amethysts and olives are accented with gilded golds and silvers, punctuated with ethereal blacks. Prāna is a consummation of the unseen.
Our zero-waste ecodesign, rafu (darning) techniques, paneling, micro pleating and color blocking harness its circularity in a corporeal form. By using traditional artisanal practices, we further this transfer of energy, consciousness and life.
Through ‘Renew’ we continue to revive archival textiles in our contemporary aesthetic; an organic, sustainable and artisanal focus while moving forward towards a new chapter of our collective consciousness. The upcycled heirloom has purpose in the microcosm for the wearer and relevance in macrocosm to the craft, artisan and their legacy.
